Operations Manager Water Monitoring – Darwin

Position: Technical 6 – Remuneration Package Range $129,936 – $135,963

Primary objective
Lead the Water Monitoring team in the collection, processing, management and dissemination of water monitoring data and information products for the sustainable management and conservation of the Territory’s water resources in like with best practice for environmental science. This role is a senior leader position within the Water Monitoring Branch. It is responsible for ensuring water monitoring programs deliver water allocation planning, flood and contract monitoring outcomes to the high standard.
Key duties and responsibilities
1. Ensure water data requirements are identified and mapped within the Division’s project management system.
2. Support the Branch Manager to develop, schedule and allocate work programs and project plans to surface and  groundwater monitoring teams and instrumentation officers.
3. Assess technology, instrumentation and work processes to improve operational efficiency and ensure water data information systems are operational and instrument/asset management systems are current.
4. Lead, develop and mentor staff, and provide logistical and technical support to staff in the field.
5. Undertake audits to ensure instrumentation repairs/upgrades and field/office activities are conducted to standard and provide input into review or development of new standards.

Selection criteria
1. Extensive knowledge and experience in the of field hydrography.
2. Extensive experience operating automated data monitoring networks, surveying, sampling, and flow gauging, processing and editing data in accordance with Branch and industry standards.
3. Experience in leading, developing, mentoring and managing staff, and fostering a harmonious team environment.
4. Highly developed planning, personal organisation and time management skills.
5. Effective and concise written and oral communication skills.
6. Knowledge of the implications of water legislation, water allocation planning principles, water licensing and regulation on water monitoring networks.
7. Proven ability to prepare accurate and logical documentation, memorandums, project plans and business cases and interpret technical data and convert into simple information products.
8. Current manual NT drivers licence, and firearms licence, or the ability to obtain one.

1. Bachelor Degree in a related discipline and/or Diploma Water Industry Operations (or equivalent).
2. Coxswains qualification or the ability to obtain as soon as practicable
