Position overview
This position is responsible for the project management of the Flood Warning Network (FWN) capital sustainment program of work. Reporting to the Flood Warning Network manager, the role will work closely with Flood network managers in the Observing Network Service Management (ONSM) team, within the Observing Systems and Operations (OSO) program. Sustaining critical Bureau-owned FWN assets from a centralised team will ensure the standardisation of assets across the country and allow for a streamlined project delivery model.
We seek a suitably qualified and experienced project manager with experience delivering flood network, radio Alert technology or hydrographic projects. The role is responsible for the project management of over 1 million dollars in priority sustainment activities across the FWN. Most upgrade activities are in Tasmania and South Australia. Upgrades include various complexities of work at Flood Warning Network (FWN) radio repeater, river level and rainfall sites.
The position will be reporting to the Flood Network Coordinator and be within the Observing Systems and Operations/Flood Warning Networks team. The position will be responsible for the management of a Project Delivery Technician.
Role Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the role include but are not limited to:
• Project management, planning and tracking:: Monthly tracking and reporting of project status, issues, risks, budget and benefits across FWN sustainment projects. Developing, documenting and refining processes for a centralised project delivery capability. Coordinate planning activities including site selections, leases and approvals as required.
• Project delivery: Coordinate between internal stakeholders, contractors, and instrument suppliers to ensure the delivery of FWN projects nationally within the 24/25 FY. Ensure efficient commissioning processes are developed and implemented
• Logistics and procurement: Coordinate the procurement for contractor-delivered field installations, infrastructure including platforms and instrument housing, and specialised FWN equipment to ensure the completion of the sustainment activities. Coordinate with the central supply of required equipment and materials.
• Asset and Data Management: Upon completion of works, ensure all new asset information is updated in the Bureau’s Maximo Enterprise Asset Management System(EAMS) and other systems
• Cross-team Coordination: Liaise closely with teams in the Bureau to ensure effective coordination between FWN network stakeholders.
• Workplace Health, Safety and Environment: Comply with Bureau WHS procedures, support Bureau WHS initiatives, and keep your knowledge current and aligned with the industry state of knowledge for your role. Effectively manage safety and environment risk throughout the project delivery.

Relevant Skills and Expertise
- Demonstrated skills and experience in project managing flood warning network, hydrometric networks or automatic weather station network upgrades
- Demonstrated experience running procurement and establishing contracts
- Managing contractors to delivery results
- Demonstrated experience delivering and reporting on projects within time and budget constraints
Desirable qualifications & experience
- Field experience in installation, planning and commissioning of FWN, Automatic Weather Stations or hydrographic networks.
- Any formal certification or recognition with the Australian Hydrographers Association
- Completion of or currently enrolled in NWPSS00013 Hydrometric Monitoring Basics or NWP50118 Diploma of Water Industry Operations (Hydrometric Operations)
- Nationally recognised Certification or Diploma of Project Management
- Familiar with Microsoft Project Professional and project online
Merit pool
The selection process will establish a merit pool that may be used to fill similar positions within 18 months.
