ALS Hydrographic designs, supplies, installs, operates and maintains a wide range of environmental monitoring systems for the automated, long term, continuous monitoring of many environmental parameters, including weather, water.  Our systems comprise state-of-the-art instrumentation with proven track records in harsh environments, often fitted with telemetry for client access to near real-time data.
  
Operating from offices in Melbourne, Canberra, Sydney, Brisbane, Rockhampton and Mackay, ALS Hydrographic operate and maintain some of Australia’s largest environmental monitoring networks.

The Role:
  
ALS is seeking an experienced Hydrographer or Senior Hydrographer to join our dynamic and well-established team in Hume, Canberra. This is an exciting opportunity to translate your industry knowledge and commercial awareness into innovative solutions by working collaboratively within an industry leading Hydrographic business.

The successful candidate will have proven ability and experience as a Hydrographer with a tertiary qualification in Water Operations, a Certificate in Hydrography however equivalent proven experience may be considered. 

  
The Day to Day:
  • Provide best practice Hydrographic and Environmental Monitoring services for clients in a safe and timely manner.
  • Project management, client liaison and correspondence.
  • Mentoring and training of Assistant Hydrographers/Technicians.
  • Install, service, operate and maintain remote, automatic environmental monitoring stations with a strict emphasis on quality.
  • Collect environmental data from automatic monitoring stations and verify data using computer software package before supplying to clients.
  • Maintaining accurate record keeping including field observations and calibrations.
  • Undertake flow measurement in rivers, creeks, drains and sewers using industry leading technology.
  • Undertake manual sampling activities from both surface water and groundwater, using a range of techniques with adherence to QA principles and procedures.
  • Sound knowledge of, and adherence to, health & safety principles.
The Essentials: 
  • Experience in project management
  • Diploma in Water Operations
  • Proven work experience in Hydrography
  • Ability to carry out infrequent, interstate project work for periods up to five days
  • Expert with hydrographic software applications and data acquisition applications necessary for effective data management and field instrumentation operation
  • High level attention to detail
  • Demonstrated troubleshooting capabilities on electronic equipment
  • Professional oral, written, and report writing skills
