The recent trend in South Australia of less manpower and financial resources for hydrographic data collection has placed pressure on Hydrographers to still produce results but at a much reduced cost. This often means that the quality of data collected is sacrificed, a situation unlikely to be unique to South Australia.
A recent request for data in the South East of South Australia is an example of the quandary, data quality versus cost.
The ground water resources of the South East of South Australia are probably unique in Australia. The assessment of point source recharge in this area also presents unique problems which may be of interest to participants at this workshop.
