Improving water information – Water security is a major challenge for Australia. To better manage this precious resource we must accurately monitor, assess and forecast its availability, condition and use. The Bureau of Meteorology (the Bureau) is the national weather and climate authority. Now we also have responsibility for compiling and delivering Australia’s water information. We aim to make water information as comprehensive and accessible as weather and climate information. The Australian Government has given the Bureau this water information role under section 7 of the Water Act 2007.
