The role:
ALS is seeking a junior hydrographer or field technician to join our dynamic and well-established team in Shepparton, VIC.
ALS has the biggest contingent of hydrographers in Australia, we operate many long-term contract for major water authorities as well as a diverse list of government departments and private sector clients. The successful candidate will receive extensive invested formalised and in house training program as part of your career development plan:
- Company sponsored certification and membership of the Australian Hydrographic Association.
- Company sponsored support in completing industry specific Diploma qualifications.
- Advanced Life Support First Aid course
- 4WD driver training
- In house systems, equipment and role specific technical training
- One-on-one mentoring
The day to day:
- Hands on role, with a strong focus on teamwork, reliability, and initiative,
- Routine visitation and maintenance of remote environmental monitoring sites, consisting mainly of stream flow monitoring stations,
- Collect and verify environmental data using specialist software packages and scientific instruments,
- Accurate Record keeping including field notes, photographs, and maps,
- Assisting in the upgrade of old, and installation of new environmental monitoring stations, including the use of a wide range of hand and power tools.

The essentials:
- Proficient in the use of hand, power, and pneumatic tools or willingness to learn.
- Environmental science or trades quals and/or experience,
- A proactive mindset, able to work both independently and co-operatively,
- Physically fit with an affinity for working outdoors, competent swimmer,
- Electronics / mechanical aptitude
- Computer literacy (Word, Excel, Outlook)
- Manual drivers license
